Gertrude “Trudy” Hannon
Trudy Hannon passed on October 16, 2024. Trudy was born in Long Beach Washington on August 15, 1932. She is the daughter of Herman and Berta Eberhardt who lived on the Long Beach Peninsula since the 1920’s. Her parents were the owners and operators of Eberhardt Oyster Farms which is now part of the Jolly Rogers business.
She and her brother Gig grew up working on her parent’s oyster beds. As a teen she worked at a local summer camp where, as she reported it, had as one of her charges a young lady who now writes columns for the Chinook Observer. Trudy reports that this girl was a bit of a brat.
In 1950, Trudy graduated from Ilwaco High and went on to study at the University of Oregon eventually which she obtaining a degree in Anthropology.
Trudy met and married John Hannon while he was studying at the University of California and Berkeley. Their first child, Christie was born in Berkeley. This child was followed by another girl, Kathleen Vinzant, and a boy, John Hannon, who were born in Alaska and another girl, Teresa Hannon, who was born in Parker, Colorado.
During her life, Trudy was active as a mother, small business owner and real estate developer. After her husband retired, they moved to Long Beach in 2004. Trudy was an avid equestrian, antique collector and stamp collector. In 1986 she was awarded the accolade of Rabbitman of the Year.
Trudy joins her husband and daughters Kathleen and Teresa in heaven. She is survived by her 2 remaining children, 5 grandchildren and 10 greatgrandchildren.
We are all saddened by Trudy’s death and we will all miss the great joy, love and care that Trudy brought to this world.
A graveside memorial service will be held at the Ilwaco Cemetery on October 27, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. All are welcome to attend to celebrate Trudy’s life.
