Phillip Stamp

October 8, 1938 — February 23, 2024

Longtime Nahcotta resident Phillip N Stamp passed away surrounded by family on February 23, 2024, at the age of 85.  Phillip was born in Seaview, WA on October 8, 1938, and is the son of Lewis E and Elsie Odum Stamp.

Phil grew up on the Peninsula and enjoyed the outdoors.  His interests included camping, hunting, motor cross, smoking fish, and oysters.  The old timers referred to his smoked oysters as “Nahcotta Candy.” 

He excelled at football and after graduating from Ilwaco High School in 1956.  He continued playing football for Olympic College where he received an associate degree in 1958.  After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served four years on the USS Hector as a Machinist’s Mate 2nd Class working in the engine room.

Upon being honorably discharged he returned to the Peninsula and worked in the oyster industry.  He married Judith Heckes December 27, 1965, and they were married for 58 years.  Phillip began working for the Public Utility District No. 2 in 1966 and retired from service in 1992.

His family was important to him, and he enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren compete in sports.  During his retirement he continued to pursue his passion for hunting that he shared with his son Phil.

He is survived by his wife Judy, brother Charles Stamp and sister in-law Pat Stamp of Battleground, WA.  Son Phillip Stamp II and daughter in-law Patricia Stamp of Nahcotta, WA.  Kristie Pastrana and son in-law David Pastrana of Bremerton, WA and Michael Stamp of Oysterville, WA.  He was a loving grandfather to GianCarlo Pastrana, MarcAnthony Pastrana, Bowyn Stamp.  

Phillip is preceded in death by his siblings Louis Stamp, Vina Ammer, William Stamp, and his granddaughter Piper E. Stamp.

Phil was the Best Father in-law any one could wish for.  He will greatly be missed.

As per Phillip's request, no funeral or memorial service will be held.  A private celebration of life will be held by the family at a later date.
