Martin Hendrickson

March 7, 1946 — September 1, 2024

Martin Eli Hendrickson passed away at age 78, September 1, 2024, in Ocean Park, WA of natural causes after a lengthy illness. Martin was born March 7, 1946 in Vancouver, WA to Elvi Miriam Hendrickson and William Taisto Hendrickson. His family was 100% Finnish Americans and proud of their heritage. He grew up on the family farm in Kalama, WA (Cloverdale) and helped with the mink farm chores and cattle.

Martin attended Kalama Schools and graduated at the top of his class in 1964. He then attended and graduated from Washington State University with a degree in Business and Marketing.

His career was in Real Estate and his last employment was with Pacific Realty in Long Beach, WA.

Martin married Denise Peterson in 1969; they later divorced. They had one daughter, Lillian Hendrickson Getchell (James) of Carson, NV. He is also survived by a son, Bryan Johnson (Brittney Hulmes) of Kelso, WA. Survivors also include two sisters, Josephine A. Martin (Clifford) of Tacoma, WA and Bonnie S. Brainard (Robert) of Independence, OR. Surviving grandchildren include: Jacob Hendrickson of Las Vegas, NV., Finnius Johnson of Centralia, WA, Emmerich, Elvi and Reagan Hulmes/Hendrickson of Kelso, WA. In addition, Martin is survived by many loving cousins, nieces and nephews and close friends.

Martin’s hobbies included his love of cars which he inherited from his father. He liked to fish from an early age and was a talented musician. He developed skills in photography and enjoyed capturing the beauty of the beach he loved. He had many beloved dogs in his lifetime. Martin was known for his lightning-quick wit and the sharing of his many jokes and stories. Many did not know that he could write poetry, as well.

Martin was cremated September 5, 2024. His remains will be interred at a private family gathering October 19, 2024 at noon on his parent’s graves in the IOOF Cemetery in Kalama, WA.
