Adonias “Don” E. Lucero Jr.
Don Lucero, 80, died at his residence in Ocean Park on November 26, 2018, surrounded by his family. Born to Adonias E. and Betty Jean Lucero in Denver, Colorado, he was the eldest of seven children. He attended St. Joseph Catholic School and graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in Salem, Oregon in 1956.
Following high school, he worked in construction as a carpenter and painting contractor. He retired from Oregon Department of Transportation as a carpenter in 1997. After his retirement, he moved to the Peninsula with his wife Donella. Don was in the Naval Reserve for 6 years and was a member of the Tangent, Oregon Volunteer Fire Department for over 15 years and loved helping his community.
Don loved to fish and hunt and did so with family and friends most of his life. He enjoyed the outdoors and the beach. He was a football fan and highly supported Notre Dame, Navy, and the Seattle Seahawks.
Don was a highly accomplished carpenter and woodworker making oak Craftsman furniture and beautifully turned bowls and boxes during his retirement. Don loved people and thought of most everyone he met as a friend.
Don married Donella Urban in 1988 in Dallas, Oregon, she survives. He had six children from previous marriages, Robin (Andy) Sheen of Eugene, OR, Leslie (David) Haight of Edgerton, KS, Robert (Ann) Lucero of Fayetteville, NC, Laura (Darrin) Lucero of Milwaukie, OR, Michael Lucero of Albany, OR, Brian (Kari) Lucero of Albany, OR, two stepsons, Jon (Sandra) Womelsdorff of Longview, WA and Jacob (Jennifer) Womelsdorff of Colorado Springs, CO. He had 16 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He was proud of all of his family.
No service will be held. The family asks as a memorial to Don’s life, donations be made to the Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum, 115 SE Lake Street, P.O. Box 153, Ilwaco, Washington 98624. His guestbook is available at www.penttilaschapel.com.
