Betty Jewel Blain died peacefully on August 22, 2022 at Ocean Beach Hospital in Ilwaco, Washington, after a brief illness. Her family is thankful that during her hospitalization, she received exceptional care by the nurses, doctors, and other medical staff.
Chapel Services are scheduled for 11am, Saturday, August 27, 2022 at Penttila's Chapel by the Sea, 1515 Pacific Ave S, Long Beach WA 98631, with Graveside to take place at 2pm the same day in Gray's River Grange Cemetery.
Betty was born in Detroit, Michigan on September 17, 1927, the youngest of three sisters (Maxine and Ardis) to her parents Rudolf and Amber (Alexander) Bauer. As a young woman she loved to knit, sew and garden. At age 18, she met, fell in love, and married Army private Raymond Blain on July 10, 1945.
Betty and Ray Blain raised six beautiful children. Their three eldest, Raymond (Ed), Bernadine, and Greg were all born in Michigan. The youngest three, Julie, Robin, and Jeff were born after the family moved to Rosburg, Washington where they lived in the house that Ray built for them. All of their children graduated from Naselle High School. Betty was a house wife and homemaker, and Ray worked for Weyerhaeuser.
Betty Blain was kind, generous and often helped family members when they were in need. Betty was a devout Christian. She loved going to church, seeing friends, reading the bible, and often sang religious hymns to her children and grandchildren. She liked to read religious stories that she loved to share with visitors. When she was unable to read later in her life, due to macular-degeneration, she enjoyed listening to religious programs on the television. Betty loved gardening, doing puzzles, writing letters and sending cards to family and her home was always filled with baked goods and garden grown veggies that were fresh or home-canned. She loved flowers grown in her garden and her patches of strawberries and raspberries that she harvested and made into pies along with tins full of a variety of cookies and bars that filled her home much to the delight of visitors-family and friend alike. She also loved chocolate...oh how she loved her chocolates (you could tell the ones she didn’t fancy only because they were nibbled on and put back in the box).
Betty Blain is preceded in death by her sisters’ Maxine and Ardis, her husband Raymond Blain and her daughter Bernadine Chattick.
