Aletha Joyce (Gary) Miller, 84, passed away on February 9, 2024 at her residence in Golden Sands, Ocean Park.
She was born on September 30, 1940 in Pindall, Arkansas to Arinda Jane and Walter Silas Gary. Aletha had three siblings, brothers Evan and Daniel, and her sister Faith. The family moved away from Arkansas in 1948 and settled in Benton City, Washington. Aletha and her siblings attended elementary and high school at Kiona-Benton School. Aletha met Perry “Gene” Miller after he served a stint in the Navy and they were eventually married on September 13, 1962 in Couer d’ Alene, Idaho. On their return to the States, Aletha and Gene settled in Yakima, Washington, where she became a bookkeeper. She worked at various state agencies until her retirement in 1996.
After retiring, Aletha and Gene moved to Long Beach, Washington. They had always dreamed of living at the beach and made a new home just a quarter mile from the shore. Aletha filled her retirement years with gardening, camping, her friends at Rebekahs, and especially spending time with her grandchildren. She attended all of their school and sporting events and was always their biggest fan.
Aletha was preceded in death by her husband Gene, her parents Arinda Jane and Walter Silas Gary, and her brother Evan. She is survived by her brother Daniel (Pat), sister Faith (Robert), son Michael (Hillary), daughter Michelle (Jeff), and her grandchildren Madison, Brendan, Alicia, and Daniel.
