Antone Rook went to be with the Lord December 24, 2007 in Long Beach. He was born in Portland, Oregon May 21, 1906, the first of five children born to Michael and Thresesa (Ernst) Rook. Antone went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad in 1925, working at various positions including electrician and air conditioning mechanic on the original streamliner "City of Portland" in 1935. He transferred to engine service in 1937, becoming a locomotive engineer in 1942. In 1948 he went to Washington, D.C. to become a field inspector of safety appliances for the Interstate Commerce Commission. He worked in the Washington D.C. area, El Paso and San Antonio, Texas and Denver, Colorado before ending his government and working career in Portland in 1971. Antone was always active in his faith, whether residing in Texas, Portland or Long Beach. He currently belonged to Grace Family Fellowship of Seaview. Antone met and married Madge G. Webb in Portland in 1928. At the time they met he played horn 6 nights a week in various bands including the 41st Division National Guard and the Union Pacific railroad band. After the death of his wife Madge following 69 years of marriage in 1997, Antone moved to Long Beach to be near his son and daughter-in-law Marshall A. and Helen Rook who reside in Long Beach. Also surviving are four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and all four of his siblings. Funeral service has been held at Penttila's Chapel by The Sea in Long Beach with Pastor Brian Waldier officiating. Concluding services and entombment followed at Portland Memorial Mausoleum in Portland on January 4, 2008 at 1:30 PM. Please share a memory or sign the guestbook.
