Brian D. Wood, 43, a 23 year resident of Long Beach, Washington, passed April 5, 2007 in Ilwaco, Washington of natural causes. The son of the late George and Christine Wood, he was born in Northridge, California on October 19, 1963. Following the death of his mother when he was a child, the family made Spokane, Washington their new home. Brian attended University High School in Spokane. After graduating he joined the United States Marine Corps and served out his duty until an honorable discharge in 1984. Also in 1984, Brian moved to the Long Beach Peninsula where he made his living as a commercial fisherman. Brian went on to become a certified nursing assistant and a restorative aide in the area. In 1992 he met Michelle Calabrese and on March 21, 1995 they became husband and wife in Long Beach. In 1996 Brian began working for the Breakers Condominium Association as the manager of the maintenance department at The Breakers in Long Beach. Brian was an outgoing man and a devoted father who was involved with coaching his son's soccer and basketball teams. He also helped during the baseball and football seasons as an assistant coach. Brian loved to spend time with family and friends whether it be at a barbeque he hosted at his home or watching a Portland Trail Blazers game. He enjoyed sports and recently took up golf as another hobby. Brian was a member of both the Tuesday night mixed league and the Thursday night men's league at the Hilltop Bowl in Ilwaco. Brian was always willing to lend a helping hand and could be relied upon for being a sound voice of reason to those in need. Brian is survived by wife Michelle, daughter Kayla, sons Mathew and Chris; brothers Steve, Ron; sisters Ellen, Noreen, Karen, and Brenda; numerous nieces, nephews and many friends as close as family. Memorial service will be held Saturday, April 14, 2007, 1:00 PM at Penttila's Chapel By The Sea, 1515 S Pacific Way, Long Beach, Washington. A potluck reception will be held from 2-5 PM in the "Sunset Meeting Room" at The Breakers motel located 1 ½ miles north of downtown Long Beach on 222 W 26th Street.
