Charles "Chuck" Leighton Hale, 21, passed away in his sleep on Dec. 1, 2007, in Newberg, Ore., while visiting friends. He was born Jan. 13, 1986, in Guam to Bobette and Bill Baze. He had been a resident of the Peninsula since 1987, where he attended local schools. He received a GED from Job Corps. He worked where and when he could, and often helped his Dad building homes or working at home. He had recently been a resident of Ocean View Convalescent Center for a few months due to an accident. He enjoyed helping and just being around people. He was always smiling or singing. He loved all types of music but his favorite was old-time country music. He made friends wherever he went; he could tell great stories and entertain a crowd. Mr. Hale deeply cared about the residents of Ocean View and had been working on getting a path made from the nursing home to the Discovery Trail, so the residents could see the ocean. Survivors include his parents, Bill and Bobette Baze of Ocean Park; two sisters, Kastle Baze of Texas and Amanda Baze of Long Beach; three nephews, Robert, Calvin and Mark; his grandmother, Carol Baze and his great-great grandmother, Helen Henderson of Tigard, Ore. His grandfather, Bob Baze and his aunt, T.C. Baze preceded him in death. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., on Sunday, Dec. 9 at Penttila's Chapel by The Sea, Long Beach. A graveside service will be held at Ocean Park Cemetery.
