Carla Smith

Ilwaco resident Carla M. Smith, 55, died August 13, 2007 in Long beach as a result of lung cancer. The daughter of Haven and Joyce (Flower) Mackie, she was born February 23, 1952 in Yakima, Washington. Carla attended grade school in Portland and was a student at Marshall High School in southeast Portland. She met and married Jim Meeks and they were the parents of two children. In 1994 she moved to Long Beach. Carla was employed as a cook in local restaurants until illness struck. Carla married Mike Smith on January 18, 1996. Though they had no children together they took special care of their canine companion Buster, the cutest four legged friend that they spoiled. Besides her husband, Carla is survived by children Sonja Lynn Martin of Portland and Daniel James Meeks of Florida; brothers Charles Mackie of Arizona and Darrel Mackie of Portland; sister Linda of Portland; grandchildren Bryin Meeks and Justin Wood; and other members of her extended family. Carla will be remembered at a memorial service at the Peninsula Church Center on Sunday, Sept 16, 2007 at 3:00 PM. A reception will follow at the church. Private interment will be at Ilwaco cemetery. Arrangements are by Penttila's Chapel by The Sea, Long Beach.
