Long Beach, WA resident Donald Ray Lawhead, 75, died October 22, 2007 at a local care facility following a brief stay. He was born June 25, 1932 in Vancouver, WA to Ray Melvin and Rose (Steit) Lawhead. The family moved a great deal for work, and Donald graduated from high school in California. At eighteen years of age, Donald joined the US Army in 1950, and served for twenty-two years until retiring in 1972. He served two tours of duty in Korea and three tours in Vietnam. After retiring from the Army, he operated, at various times, six different service stations as well as two taverns. In 1998 Donald and his wife Yvonne (Winn) moved to the Long Beach. Here he enjoyed playing cribbage with friends and working in his garden. He was a member of the American Legion and the Elks. His wife Yvonne and son Donald Lawhead Jr and grandchildren Preston and Donald Ray Lawhead III survive Donald locally. In addition children Teri Sehelerman, David Hendrickson, Beth Smith and Denise Nixon also survive, as well as a brother Arthur Lawhead; thirteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and niece Shirley Black. A graveside service with full military honors will be held Monday October 29, 2007 at 1 PM at Willamette National Cemetery. Burial will follow.
