OBITUARY OF DENNIS MATHEW WOOD-GAINES Dennis M. Wood-Gaines, 81, died April 15, 2007 at his Ocean Park residence. The son of Samuel and Theodora (Gierth) Wood-Gaines, he was born July 30, 1925 in London, England. He grew up in London where he received his education and at age 15 left home to become a merchant seaman. Dennis' maritime career took him to many places throughout the world where he resided. He furthered his education in the merchant marine sciences and graduated from college. He immigrated to the United States in 1958 and became a US citizen, settling in Bellevue and Kirkland, Washington. He was an engineer consultant in the import and export business and for 15 years he and his wife owned and operated The Cuttysark, a marine antique shop in Bellevue. In 1990 he retired to Ocean Park. Dennis was a member of the Church of England. He enjoyed marine antiques and geography and was a dedicated husband and father who always put his family first. On March 3, 1951he married Audrey Hicks and their first home was in New Cross, London, England. She survives residing at the family home in Ocean Park. Also surviving are daughters Gillian Paulson of Edmonds, WA and Christine Kuhn of Portland, OR; son Kirk Wood-Gaines of Spokane, WA; brother Peter Wood-Gaines of Ontario, Canada; sisters Joyce Bawcutt of Ontario, Canada and Beryl Knott of Australia; grandchildren Jeff Paulson, Amanda Paulson, Jenny Kuhn, Jacob Kuhn and Anna Wood-Gaines; and many nieces and nephews. An open house for family and friends will be held at the family residence in Ocean Park from 1 until 4 PM on Saturday, April 28, 2007. For directions please phone 665-3799.
