Ocean Park resident, Emma Louise Johnson, died March 10, 2007 at the age of 81 after a short illness. The oldest of 8 children of John C. And Iris (Hutchinson) Watson, Emma was born November 6, 1925 in Clare, Michigan. She attended school in Michigan and after graduating from high school she moved to Alabama where she worked at a factory building bomb sites for the military. She also worked at a Ford factory as a riveter. While she was in Alabama she met Vincent R. Johnson at the local military base. They were married on August 16, 1945. After Vincent completed his military service the couple made their first home in The Dalles, OR. They became the parents of two daughters and later lived in Pendleton, OR and Portland, OR. Always a very social person Emma's door was always open to others. She enjoyed being a homemaker and time spent with family and friends. She was attentive to the needs of others and was willing to help care for them. She loved to cook, crochet, knit and found great pleasure in reading. An avid gardener she and her husband had maintained a beautiful garden. Preceded in death by her husband in 1998 and 5 siblings, she is survived by her daughters, Iris Andersen of Ocean Park, WA and Irva Johnson of Israel; brother, Robert Watson of Grand Ronde, OR; sister, Eva Kilkenny of Heppner, OR; granddaughters Michelle Edwards of Ocean Park, WA and Angela Failoni of Diamondville, WY; grandsons Vincent Stevens of Ocean Park, WA, Lance Stevens of Homer, AK and Mark Manker of Vancouver, WA; 12 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. A celebration of life service will be held at the Peninsula Church Center in Seaview, WA on Saturday, March 17, 2007 at 2:00 PM. Family friend, Retired Lt. Col. Erwin Wichner, chaplain for the Army for 23 yrs, will officiate. A reception will follow the service at the church.
