Ocean Park resident Ethel H. Starheim, 72, died February 16, 2007 in Long Beach. The daughter of John and Katie (Kline) Jones, she was born November 5, 1934 in North Dakota. She grew up on the family farm and remembered climbing out a second story window onto a snow drift at her home during a particularly severe winter storm. When she was in her early teens the family moved to Issaquah, Washington where she graduated from high school. Ethel worked for Boeing Aircraft and owner an Italian restaurant in west Seattle. In 1967 she and her husband bought property in Surfside where they later built their home. Ethel moved permanently to the Peninsula in 1976. She cooked at Al's Charter Office in Ilwaco and also baked at Cottage Bakery in Long Beach. In 1979 she purchased the Long Beach Mini-Mart and in 1981 purchased the Surfside Mini-Mart. Along the way she also cooked at Ocean View Convalescent Center in Long Beach and at the Methodist Camp in Ocean Park. Ethel loved to cook and especially took pride in her Italian cuisine. She also enjoyed annual trout fishing trips to Canada and travels to Europe. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren. She and Arne Starheim were married October 6, 1956 and he survives residing at the family residence. Also surviving are sons Erik Starheim and wife Christy of Ocean Park, Ronald Starheim and wife Annette of Seattle, Scot Starheim and wife Carmen of Wasilla, Alaska and Karl Starheim of Anchorage, AK; brother Bill Jones of Lisbon, ND; sisters Edvina Moran and Ellen Klein both of Seattle, Perle Wilson of Lakewood, WA and Carolyn Baker of Issaquah, WA; and ten grandchildren. At her request, no formal service will be held. Arrangements are by Penttila's Chapel by The Sea, Long Beach.
