Gordon A. Boslar, 55, went home to be with Jesus on January 1, 2008 in Portland. The son of Malcolm and Virginia (Ellenburg) Boslar, he was born February 8, 1952 in Portland. Gordon graduated from Reynolds High School in 1970 and was employed by the Benson Hotel, ESCO Corporation and most recently the Multnomah Education Service District where he was a pressman and printer. At the time of his death he had worked 27 years for MESD and was looking forward to retirement in the summer of 2008. Gordon was the father of Jason Boslar and step-dad to James Pierzina. He liked telling people that Jason was born on February 4 and James followed on February 13 of the same year. Reading was Gordon's most favorite pastime and he was proud of his extensive collection of books. When he wasn't reading he enjoyed wood working and yard work. It always brought Gordon pleasure to help others in need and he was always willing to mow grass for friends, fix electrical problems or just help out when needed. His cats Lizzie and Cattoo kept his life interesting and were his furry children. On May 21, 2000 Gordon married Annette Wirkkala after a 9-1/2 year courtship; he wasn't a man to rush into things! Gordon and Annette shared a deep abiding love to the very last breath. Gordon proposed and slipped the ring on Annette's finger on New Years Eve 1999 and they spent their last New Years Eve together in 2007. Gordon wanted so desperately to beat the leukemia which took his life, not so much for himself but to be there to help those around him who he loved so much. His positive attitude during his illness will be a legacy of his attitude of hope. Not only was he looking forward to retirement but also was eager to leave Portland and move to the home waiting for him in Naselle. Besides being survived by his wife Annette and sons John and James, he is also survived by his daughter-in-law Julia Pierzina; grandchildren Jacquline, Jasmin and Jeremiah Pierzina; sisters Shannon Brousseau and Allison (Jagdish) Grewal; and nephew Simrin Grewal. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Leo Brousseau. Funeral service will be held Saturday, January 5, 2008, 11:00 AM at the Community Congregational Church in Naselle, Washington. Following a graveside service at Deep River Cemetery a reception will be held at the church. Memorials may be made to either the Congregational Church in Naselle or the Deep River Cemetery Association in care of Penttila's Chapel by The Sea, PO Box 417, Long Beach, WA 98631.
