Josefine Gerkens

July 8, 1945 — February 26, 2008

Josefine Gerkens, 62, of Ocean Park, WA, passed away February 26, 2008 in Tucson, AZ while on vacation. She was born July 8, 1945 in Langenfeld, Germany to Theodore and Anna (Gombler) Terhuven. She grew up in Germany but at sixteen moved to Wisconson with her aunt & uncle and graduated from high school there. After high school she returned to Germany and on August 8, 1967 married Bernd Gerkens. Shortly thereafter, Josephine and Bernie moved back to Wisconsin, where they lived for twelve years. In 1980 they moved to Aloha, Oregon. In 2002, following retirement, they moved to the Surfside area of Ocean Park. Josefine was an avid gardener with a green thumb, and once won a Green Angel award for her landscaping. She and Bernie traveled all over Europe and also traveled in their motor home. She enjoyed crocheting and swimming at the Dunes Bible Camp pool. Mostly though, doting on her precious grandchildren filled her with joy. Josefine is survived by Bernie at the family home; daughter Sonja Morton of Scappoose, OR; son Keith Gerkens of West Salem, Ohio; grandchildren Andrew and Joseph Morton and Brandon Gerkins. A funeral service will take place Saturday march 8, 2008 at eleven o'clock in the morning at Penttila's Chapel by The Sea, Long Beach, WA. Burial will follow at Lone Fir Cemetery in Long Beach.
