Oscar H. Kilian, 91, of Chinook, WA died February 23, 2007 at the family home. He was born February 16, 1916 in Elk, WA (which is outside of Spokane) to William and Frieda (Wunderlick) Killian. Both of Oscar's parents were from Germany. His dad was in the textile business in Germany and New York. Oscar lived in Portland from 1936 to 1937. He met Gladys Stenberg in the summer of 1940 at a baseball game and the were married on March 15, 1941 in Boise, ID. He served in the US Navy from 1942 to 1946 in the See-Bees, attaining the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class/ Seaman Striker. After the war, he worked for Garlock Packing, Mechanical Engineering and Manufacturing which supplied railroad and steamship companies with hardware. Later on he was an inspector for the Oregon Liquor Control Board. In 1960, He and Gladys moved to Chinook, WA. Oscar was proud of his service as a Commissioner for the Port of Chinook. Oscar loved the outdoors, fishing and hunting. Oscar continued his pursuit of hunting until this past year. He could boast of bagging an elk every year until 2005. Oscar is survived by his wife Gladys and numerous nieces and nephews. Private funeral services will be held at Penttila's Chapel by The Sea, Long Beach. Burial will be at Ilwaco Cemetery.
