OBITUARY OF ORLA FLEWELLIN MAGILL Long Beach resident Orla F. Magill, 92, died May 29, 2007 in Long Beach. Born May 28, 1915 in Shabonna, Illinois, she was the last surviving child born to Edwin and Myrtle (Chapman) Flewellin. Orla grew up on the family corn farm in northern Illinois. She graduated from Shabonna High School and then attended Northern Illinois University where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary education. Orla's first teaching job was in Lexington, Illinois. There she met and married Lewis Magill II. Later they moved to Pullman, Washington where Lew was a professor at Washington State University and Orla was a wife and mother. When her sons were older she returned to teaching at elementary schools in Pullman and Colfax. Having visited the Long Beach Peninsula often over the years, Orla and Lew retired here in June of 1975. Orla was a member of the Order of Eastern Star in Pullman where she also was a member of the Congregational Church. She was a active member of Ocean Beach Presbyterian Church in Seaview where she had served as a deacon, member of the Presbyterian Church Women and had been honored as a saint for her commitment and service to her church over the years. She was a founding board member of Pacific Aging Council Endeavors of Ilwaco. Orla was an avid reader and walker. She enjoyed following the Seattle Mariners and when her eye sight failed faithfully followed them on radio. Throughout her life Orla had a strong sense of family and was a nurturer who enjoyed keeping in touch with her grandchildren, sharing her wisdom and insight with them. Orla is survived by her sons Lewis M. "Mal" Magill III of Long Beach and Edwin Magill of Silverdale, WA; one granddaughter; three grandsons and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Lew in 1998, her siblings and one daughter who died in infancy. Memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 5, 2007, 2:00 PM at Ocean Beach Presbyterian Church in Seaview with a reception following. Private interment will be in Lexington, Illinois.
