Surfside resident Marie Parker, 83, died June 11, 2007 in Portland. The daughter of Otillius and Agnes (Strand) Jensen she was born December 11, 1923 in a small Norwegian fishing village. At an early age she immigrated to the US with her parents, settling in the San Juan Islands where her father fished. Petra came to the Peninsula and initially settled in Chinook where she attended grade school, later attending Ilwaco High School. She met Jack Carnahan, who was serving in the US Coast Guard, and they were married. The family home was in Nahcotta where Petra worked for many years at the Coast Oyster cannery and for over 20 years was a clerk at Jack's Country Store in Ocean Park. The matriarch of her family, she took great pride and interest in her family and especially her grandchildren and she a devoted wife and mother. In years past Marie attended Ocean Park Methodist Church. She had been an avid bowler and in later years took up golf. She enjoyed winters in warmer climates, playing bridge, was a knitting enthusiast, and was blessed with a positive personality, she being the eternal optimist. Her husband Jack died in 1973 and she later married Howard Parker who survives. Also surviving are daughter Judith Peterson of Boston, MA; son Jack Carnahan of Nahcotta, WA; brother George Leage of Morro Bay, CA; sister Violet Leage of Morro Bay, CA; six grandchildren and one great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her son Kenneth Carnahan and brothers Orville and Ted Leage. Graveside service will be Friday, June 15, 2007, 1:00 PM at Ocean Park Cemetery. Viewing will be Friday morning, 10 AM until 12 Noon at Penttila's Chapel by The Sea, Long Beach. Reception follows at the Surfside Golf Course Clubhouse.
