Robert Schaefer

Robert L. Schaefer, 67, died March 22, 2008 in Ilwaco where he had resided the past 6 years. The son of Gerald and Bernice Schaefer, he was born October 25, 1940 in Tacoma. When he was 6 years old he moved with his family to Juneau, Alaska. There he completed his education and soon learned the fishing trade from his step-father. Robert fished commercially in Alaska for 46 years. Tired of the cold winters, he moved to Westport, Washington nine years ago and six years ago moved to Ilwaco. He was proud to be a fisherman. He and Nancy Jacobson were married October 6, 1972 in Juneau. She survives residing in Ilwaco. Also surviving are brothers Gerald Schaefer of Port Angeles, Washington and Joseph Bowman of Juneau and sister Shari Robert of Bremerton, WA. At the request of his family, no formal service will be held. Cremation arrangements are by Penttila's Chapel by The Sea, Long Beach. The guestbook is available at www.penttilaschapel.com.
