Steve Huddleston, 70, died December 1, 2007 at his Ilwaco residence after battling Alzheimer's Disease. Born August 23, 1937 on Puget Island, Washington, he was the son of Clifford and Myrtle (Cline) Huddleston. Steve grew up on Puget Island and later in his youth lived in Alaska and on the Peninsula. Steve joined the US Air Force when he was 17 and completed his GED in the service. For 20 years he served with the Air Force as a radar man, both overseas and domestically, attaining the rank of technical sergeant, being honorably discharged in 1974. With his military career over, Steve returned to his roots on the Peninsula. He operated a service station in Seaview, was an electrician for Ford Electric for a number of years and then was an installer for Mansfield Alarm before retiring. Steve enjoyed hunting and fishing, cruising around town in his prize Ford pickup, and took a special interest in his grandchildren. He and Eleanor Johnston were married May 13, 1978. She survives, residing at the family home in Ilwaco. Also surviving are grandson Jordan Huitt, granddaughter Lakin Nielson, and daughter Michelle Nielson all of Arlington, WA; son Charles Huddleston Jr. (Kari) of Idaho; stepson John Liptak of Tennessee; sons William, Carl, Robert and Michael all of the Peninsula; daughters Deborah and Lucinda; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral service with military honors will be held Friday, December 14, 2007, 12:30 PM at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
