Shirley Lee "Samie" Starr, 59, of Nahcotta, died February 17, 2007 in Ilwaco, WA. Samie was born May 21, 1947 in Tacoma WA to Leon and Audrey (Chambers) Aegerter. She was raised in Tacoma and attended school there, graduating in 1965. Samie and James Starr were married in Ellensburg, WA on December 5, 1980. They moved to Nahcotta in 1998. Although she was the bookkeeper for the family marine industrial business, this was not what she considered her occupation. Her real passion and work was being a artist. She was a noted western wildlife artist. Her works hang in many prestigious galleries through out the West and in private collections, such as the Favell Western Art Museum in Klamath Falls. Samie loved her family and took great pride in making her house a home. Never one to be formal, she wanted you to feel at home and was very casual. Cooking was a passion, and was known to be the best soup maker on earth. Besides her husband James, Samie is survived by her daughter Lana M. Starr of Nahcotta. She was affectionately know as "Nene" to her two grandchildren Corina and Dustyn Starr, also of Nahcotta. A memorial service is to be held Saturday, February 24 at 2 PM at Penttila's Chapel by The Sea, Long Beach, WA. A reception will follow. The online guestbook may be signed at www.penttilaschapel.com.
