Terry Krager

August 9, 1942 — May 4, 2007

Tyrrel W. "Terry" Krager, 64, died May 4, 2007 at his Chinook, Washington residence of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Born August 9, 1942 at St. Mary's Hospital in Astoria, he was the son of William and Louise (Sather) Krager. Terry grew-up in Chinook where he attended Chinook elementary school and graduated from Ilwaco High School in 1960. While in high school he helped his parents at the Chinook Shell station which they owned and operated. Following high school Terry worked in the woods and at the Willapa Wildlife Refuge station. He then attended college, beginning at Olympic Junior College in Bremerton, went on to the University of Washington, graduating from Western Washington University. Following college Terry joined the US Navy and served aboard an aircraft carrier during the Viet Nam war. Returning to Chinook he taught at Sea Resources in Chinook and became plant manager for Ocean Spray Cranberries in Long Beach. Terry then was employed at Chinook Packing and with the retirement of Mel Leback became plant manager. When the operation was sold to Ocean Beauty Seafoods Terry became manager of their west coast operations, retiring in 2002. Working at his parent's service station, Terry early on developed a keen interest in cars and "could fix anything with a motor". He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, loved to hunt for deer and elk and was happiest when outdoors. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Ilwaco Post. Terry enjoyed many friendships both professional and personal and his friends will remember him as "one of the really good guys". Terry's strength, determination and love of life helped him endure his illness from its onset 4 years ago. Terry and Marie Ann Cronen were married in 1970 and she died in 2000. He later married Georgia Hall and she survives, residing in Chinook. Also surviving are his mother Louise Krager of Chinook; son Erik Krager serving with the US Army and stationed at Fort Monroe, Virginia; step-son Robert Hall of Kelso, WA; step-daughter Leslie Atkinson of Astoria, OR and grand- children Sarah, Rees, Rachel and Jude; brother Jon and wife Pat Krager of Chinook; and grandchildren Brianna and Ananda Krager. Terry's family invites his friends and neighbors to an informal gathering Sunday, May 13, 2007, 1:00 PM at the Maritime Memorial at the Port of Chinook.
