Former Ocean Park resident Virginia L. Wiegardt, 78, died June 12, 2007 in Astoria where she had resided the past 2 years. Born September 24, 1928 in Portland, she was the daughter of Albert and Myrtle (Sutton) Lundstrom. She grew up in the Eastmoreland area of southeast Portland where she graduated from high school. Virginia often spent her summers in Long Beach and while working at Red's Sandwich Shop in downtown Long Beach she met Lee Wiegardt. They were married August 15, 1949 and she resided in Ocean Park thereafter. Virginia was a wife, mother and homemaker. A member of Ocean Beach Presbyterian Church in Seaview, she also was a member the Village Club of Ocean Park and in years past, local bridge clubs. For many years Virginia was director and mentor of the Ocean Park Cemetery Association. Over the years she enjoyed walking the beach with her generations of dogs, first boxers, then German shepherds and finally her poodle. Gardening was a favorite activity and she took pride in her yard, loved assembling jig saw puzzles, reading and knitting. Family was number one with her, especially her grandchildren, and she was the cement that bonded the generations of family together. Virginia is survived by sons Fritz Wiegardt of Ocean Park; David Wiegardt of Long Beach; daughter Laurie Choate of Astoria; sister Beverly Milliron of Portland; grandchildren Ken, Lisa, Katie and John; and two great-grandchildren. Her husband Lee died in December of 2006. Funeral service will be Monday, June 18, 2007, 1:00 PM at Ocean Beach Presbyterian Church in Seaview, WA. Reception follows and a graveside service will be held at Ocean Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Ilwaco Heritage Museum, PO Box 153, Ilwaco, WA 98631.
