Long Beach resident Virginia L. Jensen, 81, died September 13, 2008 in Portland, Oregon. The daughter of Edwin and Winifred (Stubbs) Evander, she was born June 12, 1927 in Wheaton, Minnesota. During the Depression years the family moved to Walla Walla, Washington where Virginia completed high school. Virginia's brother introduced her to Dean Jensen and they married in 1949. Dean was recalled to service with the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict and was stationed at the Naselle radar station. Later Dean became a pilot for Alaska Air Lines and Virginia and he lived in several cities during his career. Virginia worked as a bookkeeper at dental offices during this time. In 1986 retirement brought Virginia to the Peninsula. The quiet pace of life at the coast was just what Virginia wanted. She enjoyed cooking and keeping in touch with family and friends. Listening to the music of the "big band" era, especially Benny Goodman was also enjoyed. Besides her husband Dean of Long Beach, Virginia is survived by sons James Jensen of Federal Way, WA and Neil Jensen of Denver, CO; brother Neil Evander of Shelton, WA; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial service celebrating her life will be held Saturday, October 4, 2008, 11:00 AM at Penttila's Chapel by The Sea in Long Beach. A reception will follow at the chapel.
