Ocean Park resident Charles E. "Chuck" Relyea, 67, died in Long Beach on September 26, 2008. A native of Sioux City, Iowa, he was born October 2, 1940, the son of Chester and Leda (Thorten) Relyea. Charles grew up in San Diego, California where he graduated from high school. During the Vietnam Conflict in served with the US Navy aboard a gunship. His military duty served, Chuck became a logger and commercial fisherman. Moving to Kodiak Island, Alaska he was a fur trapper and in 1990 he came to the Peninsula where he again fished commercially. His final career was as a long haul truck driver until retirement called. Chuck enjoyed gardening, elk hunting and many friendships scattered around the country. He was known as a "fantastic story teller" some of which were rumored to be true. Chuck is survived by son Daniel Relyea of Tokyo, Japan; daughter Cherie Ardinger of Kodiak Island, Alaska; two grandchildren; and his companion and significant other, Sandy Scott of Ocean Park.
