Gene Lee Sellman

July 5, 1930 — October 3, 2008

Gene L. Sellman, 78, died at his Ocean Park residence on October 3, 2008. A native of Yacolt, Washington, Gene was born there on July 5, 1930, the son of George and Marie (Hamilton) Sellman. Gene grew up in nearby Vancouver where he graduated from Fort Vancouver high school and then attended Clark College for a year. For 14 years he was employed as an interior decorator for Sears Roebuck Co. Gene and his wife owned a chain of small motels in the greater Vancouver area which they ran until retirement in 1980. Having always enjoyed the coast, retirement took Gene to the Long Beach Peninsula where he built his dream home in the Surfside area. There he became a member of Ocean Park Moose and Ocean Park Eagles where he enjoyed many friendships. He also enjoyed golf and was proud of his hole-in-one. Having played in the high school band, he continued his interest in music and played in several bands including on the Peninsula. Gene married Renee' Spannagle on September 11, 1960 and they just recently celebrated their 48th anniversary. Together they enjoyed many ocean cruises. She survives residing at the family home. Also surviving are sons Greg Sellman of Bothell, Washington and Mike Sellman of Bainbridge Island, Washington; two grandsons; two granddaughters; and two nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister. A memorial service may be announced at a later date. The guestbook is available at www.penttilaschapel.com.
