Former Peninsula resident Hazel A. Driscoll, 97, died October 18, 2008 in Astoria. The daughter of Thomas and Anah (Bacon) Heron, she was born in Los Angeles, California on August 18, 1911. Her father died three months before her birth and Hazel was raised by her mother and step-father. When she was a little girl the family moved to Portland, Oregon where she attended school. On April 2, 1928 she married Tom Driscoll in Vancouver, Washington. The couple settled in Portland and soon thereafter began their family. With the outbreak of World War II Hazel entered the work force as a welder at the Albina Shipyards in Portland. In 1946 she and Tom moved to Ocean Park where they resided until 1960. Then it was off to Kelso, Washington. Retirement bought Hazel back to Ocean Park in the late 1970s. Hazel resided there and at several area care centers until her passing. While residing in Ocean Park Hazel worked 14 years as a cook at the Ocean Park school. She and Tom celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary prior to his death in December of 1994. Hazel was a former member of the Kelso Assembly of God and was strong in her Christian faith. She took great pride in her family, in her pie making skills and was an avid home canner. Hazel is survived by children Barbara Smith of Kalispell, Montana, Evelyn Lynn of Bakersfield, California, Lois Kaino of Hammond, Oregon, Les Driscoll of Ilwaco, WA, Virginia Wilson of Chinook, WA and Beverly Johnson of Ocean Park and Tacoma, WA. Numerous grand, great-grand and great-great grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by her son Kenneth. Family and friends are invited to a graveside service Saturday, October 25, 2008, 12:30 PM at Ilwaco Cemetery. Memorial service follows at 2:00 PM at Family Worship Center, 264th and Ridge, Ocean Park with a reception following at the church. Memorials may be made to either Roxy's Place at Ocean Beach Hospital or the local charity of one's choice.
