Doris L. Walters, 95, died December 2, 2008 in a Long Beach care facility. The daughter of William and Alice (Sutton) Ball, she was born in Portland, Oregon on May 10, 1913. During her youth the family moved to Missouri. Doris married Russell "Dick" Walters on August 11, 1928. During their 57 year marriage they resided in several states. After moving to the Peninsula she worked for Lucille Wilson at the Ark Restaurant in Nahcotta during the 1970s. Due to her husband's declining heath they returned to California. Doris returned to the Peninsula in 2002 to be near family. She resided at Surf Pines in Ilwaco, then Golden Sands in Klipsan Beach and for the past two and a half years at Ocean View Convalescent in Long Beach. She was an accomplished seamstress and quilter and also enjoyed bingo. Doris is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Ellen and Dick Wallace of Ilwaco; grandchildren Scott Wallace and his wife Robin, Jennifer Cunningham and her husband Chase; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Dick, son William Walters, daughter-in-law Wanda Walters and sister Mayo Hodges. A private service will be held later.
