Bette Jane Anderson

Bette Jane Anderson, 86, of Kelso, died Jan. 2, 2009 peacefully at her home in Kelso. She was born on May 2, 1922, in Seaview, Washington to Claude and Elvira Woodham. Bette graduated from Ilwaco High School, attended business school, then worked at Long Fibre as a secretary prior to marrying Arthur Emil Anderson in 1949. They were members of the Kelso Elks and she enjoyed socializing, playing cards, and dancing. She began working in the Kelso School District in 1970 as an instructional aide at Washington School and retired from a Kelso High assignment in 1987. She was an active member of the Longview Senior Center until 2001, holding numerous positions. Bette was preceded in death by her loving husband, Art, in 1996, a daughter, Lynda Leigh Grimmett and a sister, Jean Johnson. Bette is survived by two sons, Mike (and Jody) Anderson of Longview, Mark Anderson of Kelso, son-in-law Max Grimmett of Arizona, and niece Judy Wirkkala of Chinook. She had four grandchildren; Ryan Anderson, Longview, Michaelyn Grimmett, Seattle, Kelsey Anderson, San Francisco, CA, and Ty Grimmett, Stevensville, Montana. She will be laid to rest beside her husband on Wednesday, Jan. 7, in Ilwaco, A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. at the Ilwaco Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Longview Senior Center. Arrangements are being made by Penttila's Chapel by the Sea in Long Beach, Washington.
