Ocean Park resident David Jones, 47, died in Ilwaco on January 18, 2009 following a 6 month battle with cancer. The son of James and Patricia (Farrell) Jones, he was born August 28, 1961 in Morocco where his father was serving with the United States Air Force at the time. While in high school he excelled in scholastic endeavors and participated on the debate team. He attended Eastern Washington University for 7 years studying geology. During this time he traveled extensively studying volcanoes, spelunking and mapping caves. He was employed by the Washington State Parks Department and one of his trips was to the Peninsula. For the ensuing 19 years David worked there as cook and manager until the business ceased operation. He worked as a cook at the Pilot House restaurant in Ocean Park until illness forced his retirement. David enjoyed the peace, quiet and tranquility of the Peninsula. He was an avid collector of HO and N gauge model trains and enjoyed the challenges of model railroading. He was an excellent cook, puttered at gardening and was a master of crossword puzzles. David also enjoyed a spirited debate and conversation and took pride in being his own person. He and Caroline Robinson were together for 17 years at their Ocean Park residence.
