Paul E. Penttila Jr. died January 23, 2009 at his residence, in Grayland, Washington. He was born December 28, 1945 in Astoria, Oregon. Paul traveled to Alaska soon after graduating from Naselle High School to work at various jobs in the woods. He later moved back to southwest Washington to continue woods work as a timber faller and truck driver but his heart remained in Alaska. He resided the past 15 years in Grayland, Washington with his companion and caregiver Diane Meneghetti. Paul enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, clamming, crabbing and beach combing. He considered any day spent in the woods or on the beach was a good day. Survivors include daughters Jewelee Bell of Juneau, Alaska and Tara Ivanoff of Vancouver, Washington; stepdaughter Kathy Terhune of South Bend, Washington; stepsons Brady Penttila of Vancouver, Washington, Mark Terhune of Olympia, Washington and Tony Terhune of Portland, Oregon; brothers Philip Penttila of Warrenton, Oregon, Douglas Penttila of Valley, Washington and Donald Penttila of Naselle, Washington; and 8 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Paul M. Penttila and Marjorie M. Penttila. Graveside inurnment will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, February 21, 2009 at Peaceful Hill Cemetery in Naselle, Washington. Memorial service follows at Naselle Lutheran Church at 12:00 Noon with a reception immediately following at the church.
