Donna Alexander, 80, died March 28, 2009 at her Long Beach residence following a lengthy battle with cancer. The daughter of Julius and Ethel (McIntyre) Meyer, she was born in Brainerd, Minnesota on September 30, 1928. Donna grew up in southeast Portland, Oregon. Following her graduation from Washington High School she attended business college in Portland. On February 14, 1948 she married Art Alexander in Portland and Donna became a wife, mother and homemaker. In October of 1954 she and Art moved to Long Beach where they purchased Peninsula Sanitation Service. Art died in January of 2000 and Donna remained actively involved in the business until her death. On August 23, 2003 she married Don Urban, a long time resident of Long Beach. He died March 12, 2007. Donna was a 25 year member of Ilwaco Community Church, presently known as Pacific Bible Church. She was a 50 year member of Pacific Chapter Order of Eastern Star and was a member of the Rebekahs. Donna was also a life time member of the Peninsula Saddle Club, member of the Washington State Horsemen and of the Washington Refuse and Recycling Association. Donna was devoted to her family and she enjoyed large family gatherings, birthdays and the holidays. Collecting antiques, traveling and cruising to overseas destinations and shopping were favorite endeavors. Donna touched the lives of many with her positive approach to life, her smile and she was a true testament to her Christian faith. Donna is survived by daughters and son-in-laws Diane and Larry Carter of Long Beach, Linda and Ed Bittner of Long Beach, Nancy and David Randall of Yakima, WA and Amy and Bryan McHale of Long Beach; son and daughter-in-law Jay and Teresa Alexander of Long Beach; grandchildren Ned and Ian Bittner, Deena Dryden, Mandy Alexander, Jessica and Trevor Randall, and Wylie McHale; and great-grandchildren Dominique and Sophia Bittner. Going Home Celebration will be held Saturday, April 4, 2009, 12 Noon at Pacific Bible Church in Ilwaco with a reception following at the church. Concluding graveside rites will be held at Ilwaco Cemetery. The casket will be open at Penttila's Chapel by The Sea in Long Beach from 9 AM until 5 PM Thursday and Friday.
