Long Beach resident Naomi A. "Ommie" Hussey, 99, died in Raymond, Washington on March 15, 2009. A native of Sacramento, California, she was born September 19, 1909. Naomi graduated from high school in Palo Alto, California. She resided in San Francisco for many years where she was employed at a up-scale women's fashion store. Her husband Marion Hussey had often visited the Peninsula in earlier years and they retired to Long Beach in 1971. Naomi was one of the earliest supporters in the establishment of the Peninsula Senior Center at Klipsan Beach where she was active for many years. She was honored as "Queen" and feted there last September in honor of her 99th birthday. She was also a long time member of the Meet Your Neighbor Club. Always one to keep busy, over the years Naomi enjoyed fly fishing, flower gardening, knitting, oil painting, clam digging, family genealogy and many friendships. Blessed with a sense of humor, she attributed her longevity to her independent ways, self-reliance and keeping her mind active doing crossword puzzles. Naomi is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Andrew and Phyllis Peterson of Lincoln, California; three grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Her husband Marion died in 1971. Naomi will be buried next to Marion at Lone Fir Cemetery in Long Beach. The guestbook is available at www.penttilaschapel.com.
