Ocean Park resident Mary Ann Giffin, 89, died at her residence on April 27, 2009. Born in Saskatchewan, Canada in 1919, she was the only daughter in a family of 11 children. When she was 20 she moved to Vancouver, British Columbia where in 1941 she married Byron Giffin. Later she and Byron moved to Portland, Oregon and she became a US citizen. In 1950 she began operation of Tulip Pastries Bakery in the St. Johns district of north Portland and she operated that business for the next 30 years. A resident of Vancouver, Washington she moved to Ocean Park seventeen years ago where she operated Mary Ann's Kitchen from 1992 until 1995 when she retired. Mary Ann was a member Ocean Park Lutheran church and the Ocean Park Moose lodge. She enjoyed cooking and baking, rug making and spending time with her family and many friends. Mary Ann is survived by her five children; 22 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren; 2 brothers and 3 sister-in-laws. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at Penttila's Chapel by The Sea in Long Beach on Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 3:00 PM. A reception will be held following at Ocean Park Lutheran Church. Mary Ann had requested that memorials be made to the local organization of one's choice.
