Shirley Ruth Wonner

May 3, 1915 — May 21, 2009

Shirley R. Wonner, 94, a former resident of Ocean Park, died in Salem, Oregon on May 21, 2009. The only child of Barry and Jenny Raguse, she was born May 3, 1915 in Vancouver, Washington. Shirley grew up in Vancouver where she graduated from Vancouver High School. Following high school she became and wife and mother and later became assistant head housekeeper at the Jantzen Beach Red Lion Inn. Shirley married Stan Wonner in 1981 and they resided in Ocean Park until Stan's death in 2000. Shortly thereafter Shirley moved to Salem to be near family. Shirley lived life to the fullest and she often remarked that she "didn't want to miss a thing". She was blessed with a wonderful sense of humor ("How do you feel, mom?". "With my hands!"). She was a good provider to her family and appreciated the beauty of nature. Her favorite holiday was Christmas and she enjoyed egg nog for months before and after December. Shirley's years on the Peninsula were marked by many friendships. She loved the slower pace of the beach. A lover of animals, she was an avid supporter of the South Pacific County Humane Society. Shirley is survived by her children and grandchildren and other members of her extended family. Graveside rites will be held at Ocean Park Cemetery on Friday, July 24, 2009 at 1:00 PM. Memorials may be made to the South Pacific County Humane Society in care of Penttila's Chapel, PO Box 417, Long Beach, WA 98631. The guestbook is available at www.penttilaschapel.com.
