Marilyn Kunkel

Marilyn A, Kunkel, 85, died July 27, 2009 in Ilwaco. Born in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin on September 9, 1923, she was the daughter of Edwin and Dorothy (Whipperman) Moe. Marilyn moved with her family to Seattle as a child where she grew up and attended school. She quit attending high school during the Depression years to enter the work force. She married Kenneth Kunkel on September 12, 1953 and they resided in Seattle. Moving to California Marilyn worked for Memorex in San Jose. There she tested all the recording tapes used on the first moon shot. Returning to Seattle Marilyn became a certified nursing assistant and worked in several care centers in north Seattle. In 1990 she and Kenneth retired to Nahcotta where they had owned property since 1954. Marilyn was a member of the Lutheran faith and also was a member of Ocean Park Eagles. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and playing cards. She was an excellent cook and was known for her baking skills as well. Marilyn is survived by her husband Kenneth residing in Nahcotta; daughters Patricia Satterfield of Bend, OR, Linda Shert of Nahcotta and Sandra Johns of Lynnwood, WA; son John Kunkel of Mill Creek, WA; and 21 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter Dorothy Moe; and granddaughter Michelle Rangler. At her request no service will be held. The family expresses their appreciation to PACE who provided Marilyn's care giver Donna Snyder and also to Harbors Home Health and Donna Mead RN for her care as well.
