Bernice L. Ager, 93, a 47 year resident of the Peninsula, died August 17, 2009 in Ilwaco. The daughter of Swedish immigrants John and Lethin (Neilsen) Sutherman, she was born September 11, 1915 in Antioch, B.C., Canada. Her father was an iron worker and the family traveled as his employment dictated, residing mostly in Alaska. While living in Portland, Oregon Bernice met her husband Arba Ager and they were married in 1936 in Portland. Bernice was a wife, mother and homemaker. In 1964 she and Arba moved to Long Beach where they owned and operated Shoreview Beach Homes for 10 years prior to retirement. Bernice enjoyed her life on the Peninsula and also enjoyed vacations in Florida. She is survived by sons Arba Ager Jr. of Miami, Florida and Terry Ager of Warrenton, Oregon; daughter Jane Snow of Long Beach, WA; grandchildren Gena S. Travis, Leigh-Anne Scott, A.J. Ager, Kersten Velez, April Thomas and Alex Ager; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband.
