Obituary of Michael Gene Hurse Michael Gene Hurse, 67, of Naselle, died August 23, 2009 at the Portland VA Medical Center of natural causes. He was born August 26, 1941 in Portland to Edward M. and Sarah Marie (Smith) Hurse. The family lived at the Old Deep River Logging Camp and Michael was raised there. Michael attended school in Naselle and in his senior year of high school, he joined the US Navy, in which he served for four years. Following his discharge, he returned to Naselle and in 1962 married Annabelle Jackson. He found work as a truck driver, a career that spanned his entire working life, first driving log truck then long haul freight. He and Annabelle also owned and operated the Logger Family Restaurant in Naselle. Michael enjoyed computers, playing darts and had a lifelong interest in motorcycles. He was known for his practical jokes. He is survived by Annabelle of the family home as well as children Donna Vargas of California, Joseph (Lori) Hurst of Longview, WA, Carmen (Ernesto) Contreras of Montana, Edward Hurst of Longview and Barbara Gonzalez of Longview; brother Steven (Ava) Hurse of Longview; sixteen grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and five nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held Saturday, August 29, 2009 at eleven o'clock in the morning at Peaceful Hills Cemetery in Naselle.
