Jean Jacobson

August 25, 1948 — September 6, 2009

Long Beach resident Jean I. Jacobson, 61, died September 6, 2009 in Vancouver, Washington of natural causes. Born August 25, 1948 in Gladstone, Michigan, she was the daughter of Reuben and Ruth (Swanson) Berg. As a child she moved with her parents to Vancouver, Washington. There Jean graduated from Fort Vancouver High School and went on to obtain her bachelors degree in secondary education from Portland State University. Jean taught high school English for several years. On May 13, 1972 she married Dale Jacobson and in 1973 they moved to Long Beach. Jean became a wife, mother and homemaker. She also was co-owner of the family business Active Enterprises where she worked 6 days a weekloving every minute of it. Jean was past board president of Willapa Counseling in Long Beach. She enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, crossword puzzles, reading, cooking, her dog Reece and working with her husband at their business. She also enjoyed helping customers at Active Enterprises and visiting with everyone who came into the office. Jean enjoyed living at the beach and especially enjoyed sitting outside listening to the rain. Jean was proud of her kids and grandkids and she loved having them visit on the weekends. Besides her husband, Jean is survived by her mother Ruth Berg of Olympia, WA; daughters Rachel Sautter of Vancouver, WA and Katie Herz of Washougal, WA; sons Curtis Jacobson of Phoenix, AZ and Clark Jacobson of Long Beach, WA; brothers John Berg of Salem, OR and Richard Hiltunen of Kelsey, MN; sisters Mary Bailey of Seattle, WA, Phyllis Wilson of Longview, WA and Jeanetta Clark of Marquette, MI; grandchildren Lauren, Jacob and Colton Sautter and Peyton Jacobson; and other members of her extended family. She was preceded in death by her father. Celebration of Jean's life will be held Saturday, September 26, 2009, 11:00 AM at Penttila's Chapel by The Sea, Long Beach. A reception follows at the chapel. Memorials may be made to either Willapa Counseling, Long Beach Lions Club or the South Pacific County Humane Society in care of Penttila's Chapel, PO Box 417, Long Beach, WA 98631.
