Margaret "Peggy" Herman, 90, died October 28, 2009 at her Long Beach residence. The daughter of Joseph and Amanda (Taylor) Hamilton, she was born July 26, 1919 in Astoria. Peggy married William "Bill" Herman Sr. of Portland, Oregon on December 13, 1947. Two years later they settled in Megler, Washington where Bill was employed by the Oregon State Highway Department with the Astoria-Megler ferry system until the bridge was built replacing the ferries. Peggy was a wife, mother and homemaker and also worked various jobs. She and Bill purchased the Long Beach Hotel and Tavern with they operated for several years. Later they operated several other restaurants until retirement. Peggy enjoyed making afghans, collecting owls and TY Beanie Babies and was also an avid bingo player. Peggy enjoyed her large family. Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Bill Herman, of the family home in Long Beach; sons Paul Weitzel of Largo, FL, Dennis Herman of Bellevue, WA, William "Bill" Herman Jr. and Ronald Herman both of Long Beach; daughters Barbara Wolf of Nemah, WA, Patsy Black of Castle Rock, WA and Joanie Rekart of Raymond WA; their respective spouses; and numerous grand and great-grandchildren spanning four generations. She was preceded in death by sons Donald and Michael Herman. Graveside service and vault interment will be held Thursday, November 5, 2009, 1:00 PM at Long Fir Cemetery in Long Beach.
