Norman R. Heupel, 82, a 16 year resident of Ocean Park, died in Ilwaco on November 4, 2009. The son of August and Ava (Moser) Heupel, he was born December 8, 1926 in Medina, North Dakota. Norm grew up in Medina , received his education there and was a graduate of Medina High School. At the outset of World War II Norm joined the United States Army and was stationed in Alaska. Returning to North Dakota following the war, Norm met Lilly Mae Klug at a Grange hall dance in Medina in 1949 and they married soon thereafter. Norm resided in Elgin, North Dakota where he was employed with an oil supply cooperative. Moving to Vancouver, Washington in 1967 he worked at Ace Building Supply until retiring. The Peninsula became his home in 1993. Norm enjoyed his retirement years at the coast. He was a member of Ocean Park Moose, Ocean Park Eagles and the American Legion. In his spare time he enjoyed bird watching and making bird houses. Besides his wife Lilly Mae, Norm is survived by sons Jeff of Ocean Park and Rod of Vancouver, WA; brothers Ray of Medina, North Dakota and Willy of Great Falls, Montana; and numerous grandchildren and other members of his extended family.
