Shirley Anne Dickerson, of Ocean Park, died January 13, 2010 in Ilwaco at the age of 77 after a long battle with leukemia. Shirley was born to Julia and William Brown, February 26 1932 in Twin Falls Idaho. She grew up in Idaho and Western Oregon. She graduated from Hazelton High School. Shirley went on to the Collage of Idaho and then to Eastern Washington Collage of Education where she met the love of her life, Jon. They were married June 12th 1955 in Hazelton Idaho. Shirley began her teaching career in Moses Lake Washington. She went on to teach at Fairchild Air Force Base in Washington; Baumholder, Germany; Daleville, Alabama; Fort Rucker, Alabama; Twin Falls, Idaho; Frankfurt, Germany and West Jordan, Utah. Shirley taught in the first integrated school in the State of Alabama when she was at Fort Rucker Elementary. Her teaching at Frankfurt Elementary earned her the award of "Teacher of the Year" for US Military schools in Germany. She retired in 1992. She and Jon moved to the peninsula in 1996. She is survived by her loving family: husband Jon, son Jon T. Dickerson (wife Debbie), daughters Sherri Dickerson and Laurie Christensen (husband Carl), grandchildren Jennifer White (husband Reggie), Julia Jorgenson, Jessica Dickerson, Paige Musgraves, Robert Christensen and Jesse Dickerson and four great grandchildren, Sarah, Jack and Christopher Jorgenson and Olivia White. Shirley will be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother as well as a great teacher and friend. She leaves her legacy of love to all who knew her.
