Robert Haney Shefler

January 12, 1928 — February 1, 2010

Ocean Park resident Robert D. "Bob" Shefler, 81, died February 1, 2010 in Portland, Oregon. The son of Robert and Kathleen (Dempsie) Shefler, he was born in Astoria on January 12, 1928. His father was the civil engineer for Clatsop County for a number of years and Bob grew up in Seaside where he graduated from Seaside High School. Following high school he worked as an automotive mechanic. Bob served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Following high military service Bob worked in the logging industry, both locally and in Labauchere Bay, Alaska. Following retirement he moved to Ocean Park in 1992. He was a member of the American Legion and the Ocean Park Moose lodge. A devoted husband and father, Bob loved yard work, clamming and socializing with friends at the Moose. An excellent craftsman, he also remodeled homes. Trips and vacations were a priority, even if only a picnic on the beach. An avid reader, mornings often would find him with a cup of coffee playing solitaire. He always put the needs of others first. Bob married Lillian Salikike on August 12, 1961 in Seaside. She survives residing at the family home in Ocean Park. Also surviving are sons Robert Shefler Jr. of Seaview, WA and Marvin Dorsey of Goldendale, WA; daughters Shelly Forsberg of Ocean Park and Kathleen Shefler of Portland; 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Bob's family will gather at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon to remember his life. The guestbook is available at www.penttilaschapel.com.
