Annette Jean Reese

Annette J. Reese, 69, died at her Long beach residence on March 13, 2010 surrounded by her family. The second of six children born to Roy and Merle (Manning) Shanks, she was born September 30, 1940 in Vancouver, Washington. She grew up in Vancouver and where she was a graduate of Hudson's Bay High School in 1959. Soon after graduation from high school Annette married Jim Christy. She resided for a number of years in southern California where she was a wife, mother and homemaker. She was employed by the City of Costa Mesa where she was senior accounting clerk, a position she obtained after over 20 years of service. In 1981 she married Dick Reese. In years past Annette was a Cub Scout Den Mother. She enjoyed gardening, bird watching, crocheting, oil painting, puzzles and reading. She was also an avid history and geography buff. Annette loved her family and friends and enjoyed many family get-togethers. She made and donated hand-made afghans to numerous foster children over the years. Annette retired to Long Beach 19 years ago. She is survived by her son Bret Christy of Long Beach; daughter Brenda Christy of Long Beach; brothers Don Shanks of Long Beach and Terry Shanks of Long Beach, WA; sisters Janice Frahm of Vancouver and Diane Norman of Olympia, WA; grandchildren Mark, Erik and Samantha Christy; and numerous other members of her extended family. She was preceded in death by her bother Roy Shanks. Funeral service will be held Saturday, March 27, 2010, 11:00 AM at Penttila's Chapel by The Sea in Long Beach with a reception following.
