Daniel Joseph Berg

Rosburg, Washington resident Daniel J. Berg, 66, died May 8, 2010 in Ilwaco, Washington. The son of Paul and Wilma (Marts) Berg, he was born August 26, 1943 in Tacoma, Washington. As a child he lived in Tacoma, Bremerton and Seattle. Dan was employed in retail sales in the Northwest and Phoenix, Arizona, and locally in Astoria, Oregon. Dan's special interests included railroading (especially The Milwaukee Road), history, and football. He was a fan of the Washington Huskies, Oakland Raiders, King's High School in Seattle (where he was a three sport letterman), and most recently the Naselle Comets. At the age of 39 Dan became a Christian and his ultimate interest was his faith and he attended Naselle Assembly of God Church. In 1996 Dan married Rosburg native Nina Haataja and in 2005 they built a home on the Haataja family acreage in Rosburg. She survives residing there. Also surviving are his children from his previous marriage: Randy Berg of Roche Harbor, WA, Julie (Keith) Murphy of Lynnwood, WA, Joni (Robert) Wagner of Lake Stevens, WA, and Karin Ortiz of Seattle; grandchildren Michael Murphy, Karin Wagner, Ryan Wagner and R. J. Ortiz; his mother Wilma Berg of Shoreline, WA; brothers Pat (Stephanie) O'Day of Roche Harbor, WA and Dave (Marvella) Berg of Shoreline, WA; brother-in-law Lyle (Loanne) Haataja; sister-in-law Karen (Bill) Slodysko;several neices and nephews as well as his beloved feline companions Olivia and Stella. Memorial service will be Saturday, May 22, 2010, 3:00 PM at the Assembly of God Church, Naselle, Washington, with a reception following.
