Shirley Irene Cottrell

October 4, 1932 — July 10, 2010

Vancouver, Washington resident Shirley I. Cottrell, 73, died at her Nahcotta retirement residence following a short battle with cancer on July 10, 2010. At was her final wish to die on the Peninsula which she dearly loved. The daughter of Ed and Alice (Overfelt) Wall, she was born in Epworth, Iowa on October 4, 1936. She grew up in Epworth where she graduated from Epworth High School in 1954. She moved to Vancouver in 1960. The year following high school Shirley married Gary Cottrell and he survives residing in Vancouver. She was employed in the electronics manufacturing industry but her heart was with family and friends. Shirley loved family gatherings, gambling, and socializing with friends. She was a member of both the Moose and Eagles lodges and was a self-proclaimed "social butterfly" that saw the best in others. She had a special love for her children, grand and great-grandchildren and they will cherish memories of this special lady. Besides her husband of 55 years, Shirley is survived by her sons Rod (Sandy) Cottrell, Douglas (Lupe) Cottrell, Karl (Dilek) Cottrell and Mike (Ruth) Underwood; brother Eddie (Jean) Wall; 11 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Ed and Alice Wall. Shirley had requested that no service be held. Memorials may be made to the Ocean Park Eagles, PO Box 280, Ocean Park, WA 98640.
