Phyllis Kamm Scheibner

October 10, 1932 — July 26, 2010

Seaview, WA resident Phyllis Scheibner was born in Portland on October 10, 1932, a descendant of the pioneer Kamm family of Portland. She went to be with our Lord Jesus on the evening of July 26, 2010 in Ilwaco, WA. She was a teacher for over 35 years in the Portland area, mostly at Floyd Light Middle School and still enjoyed working with young people after that as a substitute teacher on the Long Beach Peninsula. Phyllis enjoyed retirement at the beach, gardening, fishing, beach combing and lunching with friends. She had traveled thru Europe and the South Pacific several times. She took pride in helping young people and actually had helped people of all ages through difficult times. She enjoyed many friendships and will be truly missed. Love doesn't die. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents Jacob Gray Kamm and Constance West Kamm, and her sister Constance Margaret Kamm. Her grandfather Charles Tilton Kamm was at the helm of the steamer Ocean Wave, a shallow-draft vessel that could make Baker Bay at the mouth of the Columbia River at all sides, the vessel having been designed and built by her great-grandfather Jacob Kamm. This was in the vintage year of 1891 but the venture was not entirely successful as the vessel was under-powered. Phyllis is survived by her husband of 34 years, Albert, of Seaview, WA; and her sister Barbara Kamm Foster of Medford, Oregon. Graveside service will be Friday, Aug, 6, 2010, 11 AM at Ilwaco Cemetery, Ilwaco, WA. Memorial service will be Sat., Aug. 7, 2010, 2 PM at the Ilwaco Heritage Museum with a reception following. Those wishing may make memorials to the South Pacific County Humane Society, PO Box 101, Long Beach, WA 98631. Her guestbook is available at www.penttilaschapel.com.
