Ocean Park resident Lorraine J. Velander, 95, died in Ilwaco on July 26, 2010. A native of Fifield, Wisconsin, she was born September 1, 1914 the daughter of John and Josephine Tatroe. She was raised by her grandmother Anna. In past years Lorraine was employed as a waitress, as a seamstress in the textile industry, and at Boeing Aircraft. Retirement brought her to the Peninsula in 1973, settling in Ocean Park. There she was a member of the now disbanded Village Club which was responsible for countless civic improvements. She was also active in the Ocean Park Eagles, Peninsula Lions club, local affiliate of A.A.R.P., the Peninsula Art Association, and the Methodist faith. From its inception she was active in the Peninsula Senior Center where she continued volunteering until several years ago. Lorraine enjoyed traveling and had ventured to Hawaii 8 times; to Scotland, Ireland, England, Mexico, Australia, various South American nations, and had ridden on the Trans-Canadian railroad. Fishing and clamming were favorite activities after settling on the Peninsula. She was preceded in death by her husband Donald Velander in 1992. Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
