Ilwaco resident Luther E. "Luke" Miller Jr., 70, died in Ilwaco on November 26, 2010. A native of Arroyo Grande, California, he was born there on December 4, 1939, the son of Luther and Ann (Murphy) Miller Sr. As a child he moved with his family to Roseburg, Oregon. There he received his education and graduated from high school. Following high school Luke worked alongside his father on oil rigs. In 1972 he moved to the Peninsula where he began his career in the commercial fishing industry. Luke operated the vessel "Snark" fishing local waters for salmon and tuna. In later years he operated Ed's Bait Shop in Ilwaco until retirement. Luke was an avid poker player, enjoyed operating remote-controlled aircraft at the Ilwaco airport, and collected fishing reels. Luke was happiest when he was outdoors, spending time with family and friends alike. Luke married Sharon Call on July 18, 1962. She preceded him in death on April 23, 2008. Surviving are his three children, sons Luke III of Ariel, WA and Matt of Long Beach; daughter Amanda Prest of Ilwaco; and seven grandchildren.
